I’ve got a pocket full of quarters & I’m headed to the arcade

PAC man fever driving me crazy…. Oh haiz didn’t see you there reading away …I was so caught up singing

songs of my youth. What is happening Nail Art Junkies? Its been a while I know, I have been pretty busy over the past few weeks and have some exciting stuff to share. A few weeks ago I enrolled in nail school. Yes, I know. It’s great news! But I am still working my full-time gig at MAC so it’s been a bit hectic to say the least. The only downside to nail school is that I can’t have gels (or polish) for that matter on the digits while in class so Ran and I have been on hiatus for the past few weeks. Today however we were happily reunited and of course as per usual Ran punched this manicure right in the lunula (look it up people!)

Today’s manicure is an ode to my very first nail art experience. In the summer of 1982 my mom and I met the woman who started my obsession with nail art (incidentally she was also my mother’s manicurist for the next 17 years) Akiko Stratton (in case any of you know her tell her we miss her)

Anyway as my trip down memory lane continues you would note that my family as well as many other families (including Ruthie Johnson’s family who is also a nail art fanatic) were planning a big camping trip to the World’s Fair in Knoxville, Tennessee and in honor of said trip my mom took me for my very first nail art experience. It was a PAC man and Ms. PAC man pedicure (what? It was the 80′s I wasn’t even 11 yet)

Since I like to always bring things full circle i thought this 30 year anniversary of my first nail art experience and my enrollment in nail school would be the perfect opportunity to bring back the PAC man FEVER

We started with black black pigment in clear cal gel to create a rich background. Ran hand painted all of our favorite PAC man characters in gouache paint. One of the many things I love about Ran is her ability as a fine artist. I loved that she painted Inky, Blinky, Pinky and Clyde in true dot matrix form. It brings an authenticity to the manicure that really makes it so special

Stay tuned for more posts on nail school and some DIY nail designs…..
