TGI- Friday Files everyone! New York Fashion Week is minutes away and for those of you who remember last season’s Ruffians beyond spectacular velvet flocked nails this one’s for you!! (Actually, even if you don’t remember please keep reading).

There are many tutorials on flocked nails out there on the inter-webs so I thought why not pay tribute to my nail compadre’s Brian & Claude of Ruffian and the brilliant all in one textured nails they brought to life last season.

Since being in nail school I have found a whole new world of inspiration at craft stores (we all know I love a crafter-noon) Last week I found a pack of flocking powder and thought this would be a fun and easy way to inspire all of you!

The best way to approach these velvet nails is to find a nail lacquer that matches the color of your flocking powder.

I choose the following

M.A.C Nail Lacquer in GIrl About Town, Salad Dressed, Impassioned, Al Fredo & Near Beth Experience. (all of these are available on www.maccosmetics.com)

Step 1 – file and shape your nail

Step 2 – apply your favorite base coat

Step 3 – apply a thin coat of your nail lacquer, while the lacquer is drying make sure that your flocking powder is separated and fluffy (this will ensure that it evenly coats your nails. flocking powder is very fine so use a paper towel or paper plate to catch the excess product.

Step 4 – apply a thicker 2nd coat of lacquer and quickly sprinkle the flocking powder onto the wet nail. make sure to coat the nail generously.

Step 5 – gently press the flocking powder onto the nail with your finger to ensure a good adhesion.

Step 6- gently tap off the excess flocking powder from your finger.

And that’s it. The perfect accessory for a night out (or night in for that matter)…once all 10 digits are complete be sure to keep your nails away from water, hand cream and top coat as it will affect the velvet texture of the nails.
